Slow addition of Danishefsky′s diene (II) to a solution of glyoxylate esters (I) in the presence of catalytic lanthanoid triflate and a chiral bisoxazolidine catalyst yields chiral hetero-Diels—Alder products (III) after acidic treatment. The optimal conditions are presented in the scheme; the chiral ligand can be recovered in high yield.
