ChemInform Abstract

The title compounds are prepared by reaction of TiCl3 with NaCl or KCl at 900 °C followed by annealing at 520—600 °C for several weeks. Na3TiCl6 crystallizes in the monoclinic cryolite type structure, space group P21/n (Z = 2) and K3TiCl6 has the monoclinic K3MoCl6 type structure (space group P21/c, Z = 4). Both structures contain isolated TiCl63- octahedra. The structures differ in the coordination spheres around the alkali metal ions.
