1-Hydroxy-1,2-benziodoxol-3(1H)-one (I) is a useful o-carboxylphenyl cation synthon undergoing reactions with arylboronic acids or arylborates to yield biaryl-2-carboxylic acids (III) (10 examples) in good yield.
