ChemInform Abstract

Efficient and rapid dehalogenation of vic-dibromides to alkynes and alkenes is achieved using Fe (or Bi) in methanolic medium. The reaction conditions are compatible with a variety of other reducible functionalities and avoid over-reduction. vic-Dibromoalkanes furnish exclusively (E)-alkenes independent of the educt-configuration.
