Fused pyrazoline derivatives (III) and (IV), derived from the cycloaddition of starting compound (I) and in situ generated diarylnitrilimines, undergo a TFA-promoted intramolecular rearrangement to give new quinoline derivatives (V) and pyrazole derivatives (VI) and (VII).
