ChemInform Abstract

The novel title compounds are synthesized by a conventional solid state procedure. The compounds crystallize in the tetragonal space group P4/mmm. Under UV irradiation, these layered tantalates exhibit photocatalytic activity for water splitting into stoichiometric H2/O2 mixtures. The catalytic activity depends on the lanthanide metal used and the most active catalyst is RbNdTa2O7.
