ChemInform Abstract

A combination of BF3×OEt2 and POCl3 proves to be a useful Friedel—Crafts catalyst for obtaining acrylophenones [cf. (III), (V)] from phenols and acrylic acid derivatives (II). Similar reaction of hydroquinone (VII) gives surprisingly mono- and diacrylates.
