ChemInform Abstract

Reaction of 2-formylcyclohexanedione (I) with substituted 1,2-diaminobenzenes (II) gives the corresponding enamines (III) or (IV) which cyclize on treatment with conc. HCl to furnish dibenzodiazepine derivatives (V) or (VI), respectively. Hydrolysis results in reformation of starting enamine or cleavage of the C11—N10 bond [→(VIII)].
