ChemInform Abstract

UV irradiation of maleimides (I) in isopropanol generates 1:1 adducts (III) along with several trace by-products, which are identified by GC-MS analysis, whereas UV irradiation of maleimides (Ia) and (Ib) in the presence of cyclohexanol generates the corresponding 1:1 adducts (Va) and (Vb) indeed as main products but in very low yield. Thus, this method is not generally applicable to other alcohols.
