ChemInform Abstract

Catalytic amounts of lanthanoid triflate allow the formation of imines from acetals and primary amines at significantly lower temp. than in the absence of the catalyst. Application of the method to the acetal (VIII) and the amines (IX) or (XI) results in cyclization of the intermediate aminol ethers to indolone derivatives.
