ChemInform Abstract

The formation of a peritectic melting phase of the composition Ba3Ln2S6 from BaS—Ln2S3 systems (Ln: Tb—Lu) is established by means of physico-chemical analyses. A rhombic, distorted superstructure derived from the NaCl structure type with duplicated unit cell parameters in all three directions and ordered distribution of the Ba and Ln atoms is proposed. The effect of the Ln-radii on structural parameters as well as some physical properties such as melting behavior and microhardness are determined.
