ChemInform Abstract

A new and convenient method for the regioselective synthesis of the title pyridothienopyrimidinones (IV) based on the alkali-mediated reaction of 3-cyanopyridinethiones (I) with N-acetylchloroacetamide (II) is presented. In the case of derivatives (Ia) and (Ib), the intermediate methylthiopyridines (III) can be isolated.
