ChemInform Abstract

A unique and versatile synthetic access to a wide variety of phenylhydrazines (II) (8 examples), which in turn can be converted into new indole compounds [cf. (IV)—(VI)] via removal of the trichloroethyl ester groups from the corresponding phenylhydrazides (I) is accomplished.
