Yb(OTf)3 is a novel mild catalyst for the allylation with allylsilanes, e.g. (II) and (VII), which is tolerant to substrates with active protons. In the case of (VII) the chiral group on silicon participates in the stereocontrol of the allylation reaction. This is different from the TiCl4, AlCl3 or BF3 promoted allylation of compound (V) with (VII).
