ChemInform Abstract

A convenient method for the synthesis of N-hydroxyethylpiperidine (II) and -perhydroquinoline (V) via hydrogenation of the corresponding pyridinium borates under heterogeneous catalysis conditions is described. In the case of pyridinium salt (I), an oxazolidine ring closure is observed as a side reaction yielding the perhydrooxazolopyridine (III).
