ChemInform Abstract

The reduction of the title compounds with Na[PhSeB(OEt)3] (prepared by reduction of (PhSe)2 with NaBH4 in EtOH) and PhSeH (generated in situ from the borate complex with AcOH) leads regioselectively to β-hydroxy carbonyl compounds in good yields.
