ChemInform Abstract

Reaction of the rare earth elements La-Dy with N2H6F2 in the temp.- range 80 to 350 °C yields colorless single crystals of NH4DyF4 at 300 °C and polycrystalline NH4MF4 (M: La-Tb) or three different structure types depending on M and the reaction temperature. According to the single-crystal XRD data, NH4DyF4 (orthorhombic, Pbcm, Z = 4) is isotypic with NH4MF4 (M: Ce-Tb) prepared in the temp.-range 120-300 °C. At reaction temp.-ranging from 80 to 200 °C for M: La-Nd an orthorhombic structure type with Z = 8 is supposed. For M: Eu-Tb at 350 °C a third structure type (tetragonal, probably P4/m with Z = 16) derived from the CaF2 structure is indicated by the powder XRD data.
