ChemInform Abstract

A simple convenient and high-yielding 3-step synthesis of E- configurated allylic trifluoromethyl alcohols (IV) is presented, which is suitable for large-scale preparations. Key step is the regioselective opening of epoxides (I) followed by a stereoselective in situ reduction leading to the syn isomers (III) as the major products.
