The title compounds (III) are prepared by the condensation of the . alpha.,β-unsatured ketone (I) with phenylhydrazine and their antidepressant activity using a modified Porsolt forced swimming test is presented. The tolyl derivatives (IIIb) and (IIId) show the highest activity, while replacement of this methyl group by Cl or Br causes decreasing activity.
