ChemInform Abstract

γ-(Bu4N)4(SiW12O40) is prepared by reaction of Na2WO4 and γ -K7(HSiW10O36) in EtOH/H2O (pH 2-3, HCl). The compound is characterized by 183NMR, IR, Raman, and UV spectroscopy and by cyclic voltammetry. The γ-isomer is found to result from the Keggin structure by rotation of two trioxotungstic groups. The electrons of the 2e--reduced derivative are delocalized over all the W atoms on the NMR time scale but have a larger residency time on one group of four W atoms.
