The MgCl2-mediated diacetylation of the phosphonate (I) with aromatic acyl chlorides (II) and direct silica gel promoted deacetylation of the resulting triacyl compounds (III) provides an efficient method for the preparation of the α-fluoro β-keto esters (IV).
