ChemInform Abstract

The ethyne (II) mentioned in the title undergoes Diels-Alder reactions with a variety of dienes to afford 1,4-hexadiene derivatives or aromatized products. The conversion of adduct (IIIa) to the bicyclic ketone (XIV) demonstrates that (II) can be employed as a ketene equivalent.
