Optimal results are obtained if the amine (I) and an 25% KOH solution in EtOH are simultaneously and slowly added to carbon disulfide ( realizing condition (CS2) ≫ (amine) ≫ (base)). In addition, it is found that use of DMF as cosolvent can reduce reaction time.
