ChemInform Abstract

Condensations of 3-trifluoromethyl-lactams (I) with ethylenediamine and 2-aminoethanol occur exclusively on the trifluoroacetyl function of the lactams (I) without opening of the lactam structure furnishing imidazolines (III) or oxazolidine (V), respectively. Mechanistic aspects of the reaction are discussed.
