ChemInform Abstract

Yellow single crystals of the novel title compound are prepared by reaction of LaF3 with a 3.5-fold molar excess of AuCl3 6 d at 300 . degree.C in a N2/F2 flow followed by heating 3 d at 250 °C in an autoclave under N2/Ar and 7 d in sealed gold ampoules up to 500 . degree.C under Ar atmosphere. As revealed from the XRD data, La(AuF4)3 crystallizes in the trigonal space group R3c with Z = 6. The structure is built-up from (LaF9) 3-fold capped square trigonal prisms and square planar (AuF4) units.
