ChemInform Abstract

Coupling reaction of (I) with the triflate (II) affords (III), which is converted into the substrate (V). In the asymmetric title reaction the latter leads regioselectively to the optically active cyclization product (VII). Its conversion to (VIII) provides a simple route to a useful intermediate for a number of diterpenes such as kaurene and abietic acids.
