ChemInform Abstract

The synthesis of new derivatives of 1,4,2-dithiazine (cf. (IV)), bis ( 1,4,2-dithiazine) (cf. (VI)) and the rare 1,2,3-dithiazine ring system (cf. (XIV)) is based upon ring-expansion of appropriate dithiolium cations by action of ammonia and iodine. Desulfuration of dithiazines provides new isothiazole derivatives in high yield (cf. (VII), (XV)). Moreover, the behavior of 1,4,2-dithiazines under photolytic conditions in the presenc of dienophilic traps (cf. (X)) and towards nucleophiles such as Grignard reagents (cf. (XII)) is studied.
