ChemInform Abstract

Well-crystallized Re6SexTe15-x compounds with Re2Te5-type structure are prepared by reaction of the elements at 1130 K (evacuated quartz- tubes, 14 d). The homogeneity range of the rhenium selenide-tellurides is limited to x < 8.5 and formation of ReSe2-xTex-type phases occurs at higher Se contents. Single crystal XRD data are reported for Re6Se8Te7 (orthorhombic, space group Pbca, Z = 4). The structure contains distorted octahedral (Re6Se8) clusters with a cube-like arrangement of the Se atoms above the faces of the Re6 octahedra. The clusters are linked by homonuclear bicyclic (Te(Te3)2) units.
