ChemInform Abstract

Pale blue needle-shaped single crystals of the title compound are prepared at > 1400 °C by CO2-laser technique from a mixture of CuO, MgCO3, As2O5×5 H2O pretreated at 700 °C. As shown by the XRD data, the compound crystallizes in the monoclinic space group C2/c with Z = 4 in a variant of the Johillerite, Na(Mg,Zn)3Cu(AsO4)3 type structure. The structure consists of AsO4 tetrahedra, dumb-bell- like coordinated Cu(I), twisted CuO4 square polygons and octahedra statistically occupied by Mg/Cu2+.
