Coupling of the anthranilic acids (I) with the 2-iminotetrahydrofuran ( II) forms the 2-substituted quinazolinones (III). These undergo thermal cyclization to give the regioisomeric tetrahydropyridoquinazolinones (IV) and (V) mentioned in the title.
