ChemInform Abstract

The title compounds (III) show a high reactivity towards singlet oxygen which is due to their strained structure. The large thermal stability of the endoperoxides (IV) is also explained by considering the strained structure of (III). As a prospect of solar synthesis ( IIIb) is used as a photosensitizer for singlet-oxygen oxidation of . alpha.-terpinene.
