The title reactions furnish imidates (IV) or (VII), resp., (8 examples in all) resulting from cleavage of initially formed triazoline intermediates such as (III) with elimination of N2 and 1,2-migration of the phenyl group. Hydrolysis of imidate (IVc) in acidic media gives the propanoic acid (V).
