ChemInform Abstract
The tetrabromozincates Li2ZnBr4 and Na2ZnBr4 are prepared by melting a stoichiometric mixture of the water-free binary halides and subsequent annealing below the melting point for some weeks. The synthesis of the mixed halides Li2ZnCl2Br2 and Li2ZnBr2I2 failed due to decomposition of the mixture to LiCl + ZnBr2 and LiBr + ZnI2, respectively. The olivine-type tetrabromozincates and the high-temp. phase of Li2ZnCl4 crystallize in the space group Pnma, Z = 4, as determimed by neutron powder diffraction using the Rietveld method. Raman spectra of the compounds are given. The electrical conductivities of the olivine-type Zn bromides are in the same range as that of the olivine-type Li2ZnCl4.
