ChemInform Abstract

An improved method for the electrode-mediated oxidation of olefins by Pd(II) is described. Current efficiencies from 80-95% are obtained in oxidation of the olefins (I) and (II) in which HClO4 is added to a chloride-free solution of a Pd(OAc)2 catalyst. The Pd(0) is reoxidized to Pd(II) by reaction with catalytic amounts of benzoquinone which is, in turn, regenerated by anodic oxidation.
