ChemInform Abstract

Diels-Alder reaction of 2,3-dimethylnaphthalene (I) with maleic anhydride (II) leads to the formation of the endo-adduct (III), together with a small amount of the exo-isomer (IV). The anhydride ( III) is converted to the imides (VI) by reaction with the corresponding amines (V). Reduction with lithium aluminum hydride yields the desired pyrrolidines (VII). Further examples are given in the original paper.
