ChemInform Abstract
The new title ligand (VIa) is characterized as its Tl derivative (VIb). This ligand reacts rapidly with divalent first-row transition-metal ions (Fe, Co, Ni) to give high-melting bis(ligand) complexes of the type (VIII) with octahedral structures (yield 75-85%), but fails to yield stable 1:1 complexes, except with Zn(II). X-Ray structure analysis of (VIII) confirms that two different crystal forms ( monoclinic and triclinic) of two solvated samples containing benzene and CHCl3, resp., are present. The title ligand reacts also with the Co(II) complex (IX) to give the mixed octahedral complex (X). In contrast to other 3-substituted hydridotris(pyrazolyl)borates, (VI) is a ligand of remarkably low steric demand. Moessbauer spectra of the octahedral Fe(II) analogue of (VIII) are discussed.
