ChemInform Abstract

Catalytic hydrodesulfurization of (I) with aqueous RuCl3 and other platinum metal species in the presence of various hydrocarbons produces the compounds (II) and (III) as major products. Initial coordination via π-interaction, hydrogenation of the 2,3-bond, followed by hydrogenolysis to form (III) is discussed as a suitable mechanism and confirmed by formation of the complex (V) (space group C2/c; Z = 8) and its decomposition to (III) at 300 °C.
