ChemInform Abstract

Treatment of the lithiated (+)-camphor (I) with (II) gives an enolate anion which reacts with Na2PdCl4 or PtCl2(cod) to give the complexes ( IV). On reaction with HCl the chelate rings open reversibly affording ( VI) or the corresponding trans-complex (79% yield) in the case of (IVa) . In contrast to the reaction of (IV) with PhCCH leading to ( VIII), the reaction with EtCCH or HCCH gives acetylide complexes which cannot be isolated and revert to the starting compounds, i.e. their formation is reversible.
