ChemInform Abstract
Rhodium-diene complexes of the ligands (I)-(III) which are amine- functionalized derivatives of DIOP, BDPP and chiraphos, resp., are used for the asym. hydrogenation of the acids (IV). The presence of the -NMe2 groups in (I)-(III) enhances the rate of reaction and in the case of the DIOP derivative (I) causes a reversal in the observed dominant product antipode. This is attributed to a change in preferred ligand conformation. Protonated or methyl-quaternized rhodium-diene complexes of (I)-(III) are extremely water-soluble and easily recycled when used in two-phase applications.
