The Beckmann rearrangement of the ketoximes (I) to give the carboxamides (II) is induced by the acidic clay montmorillonite KSF. The oximes derived from acetone and cyclohexanone do not undergo this reaction which is supported by electron donating alkyl or aryl substituents.
