ChemInform Abstract

Highly oriented ZnO polycrystalline specimen of very high optical transmittance (80-90% at 800 nm) are prepared by chemical vapor transport (1150 °C → 930 °C) using a sintered rodlike ZnO ceramic as vapor source. Nitrogen gas containing 6% H2 is employed to maintain a reducing atmosphere in the reaction tube. Subsequent annealing in oxygen is essential for the improvement of the optical transmittance (the as-grown polycrystal has a transmittance of 40-50% at 800 nm).
