Abstract

Thermal fragmentation of (VII) yields the stable title compound (VIII).

ChemInform Abstract

Thermal fragmentation of (VII) yields the stable title compound (VIII). Thermal fragmentation of the isomer (VI), however, neither directly nor by trapping yields any trace of 1-oxa-2-cyclooctyne. The ring strain of cyclooctyne, 1-oxa-3- (VIII), and 1-oxa-2-cyclooctyne is calculated to be 68, 92, and 135 kJ/mol, resp., by MNDO methods.
