Abstract

Benzoyl isothiocyanate (I) reacts with the acetonitrile dimer (II) to form the mercaptopyrimidinecarbonitrile (III) which is treated with sodium hypochlorite, yielding the isothiazolopyrimidine (IV).

ChemInform Abstract

Benzoyl isothiocyanate (I) reacts with the acetonitrile dimer (II) to form the mercaptopyrimidinecarbonitrile (III) which is treated with sodium hypochlorite, yielding the isothiazolopyrimidine (IV). (III) is also S-alkylated with acrylonitrile (V) or the bromoacetate (VII) to give (VI) or (VIII). The latter is cyclized, forming the thieno(2,3-d)pyrimidine (IX) which is also obtained directly from (III) and (VII).
