ChemInform Abstract

The α,ω-bis(p-hydroxyphenyl)alkanes (I) are converted to the tetravinyl compounds (VII) in a five-step reaction sequence as outlined in the reaction scheme. Irradiation of (VII) yields the threefold bridged cyclophanes (VIII) with fused cyclobutane rings in the two newly formed bridges.
