Abstract

Treatment of the bromophthalimidobutyrate (IV) with the thioloacetates (III) gives the 2-phthalimido-4-sulfenylbutyrates (V) which are saponified and N-deprotected, yielding the homocysteines (VI) or (VII).

ChemInform Abstract

Treatment of the bromophthalimidobutyrate (IV) with the thioloacetates (III) gives the 2-phthalimido-4-sulfenylbutyrates (V) which are saponified and N-deprotected, yielding the homocysteines (VI) or (VII). The phosphonomethyl derivative (VII) is oxidized, producing the sulfone (VIII) which is an inhibitor of glutamine synthetase.
