Abstract

2,4,6-Tris(tert-butyl)phenylphosphonous(III) dichloride (I) is treated with magnesium to give the E-diphosphene (II) which undergoes photolytically induced E/Z isomerization.

ChemInform Abstract

2,4,6-Tris(tert-butyl)phenylphosphonous(III) dichloride (I) is treated with magnesium to give the E-diphosphene (II) which undergoes photolytically induced E/Z isomerization. Irradiation of (II) in the absence of a Pyrex filter yields the phosphaindan (IV) which is also obtained by consecutive thermolysis and reduction of (I). (IV) forms the tungsten carbonyl complex (VII).
