Abstract

Treatment of SnCl4 (II) with 2 equiv. of the Li-phenoxide (I) leads to formation of the cyclometalated dimer (III).

ChemInform Abstract

Treatment of SnCl4 (II) with 2 equiv. of the Li-phenoxide (I) leads to formation of the cyclometalated dimer (III). The presence of the new metallacycle is detected by 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy and is confirmed by an X-ray structure analysis (space group P21/n, Z=4). This facile metalation of SnCl4 contrasts with the extreme stabilities for the derivatives (IV) obtained from the appropriate methyltinchlorides with (I). Thermolysis up to 250 °C fails to show any evidence of cyclometalation. However, a monomeric metalation product (VI) (space group C2; Z=2) is obtained by treating (V) with (I) (no yields given for (IV) and (VI)).
