ChemInform Abstract

The very sensitive and selective method is based on the catalytic reduction of the dissolved oxygen in a weakly acidic medium (pH ≈ 3) containing SCN-, Fe2+, and NaClO4. The electroactive species is shown to be the adsorptive ternary complex (FeSCNNO)+ ad. A reduction mechanism is proposed. The presented procedure is applied to the analysis of nitrite in natural waters. The detection limit is 1·10-8 M (0.46 ppb NO2-).
