ChemInform Abstract

The sulfonamides (III) are coupled with the ureas (IV) to give the barbituric acid derivatives (V) which rearrange in concentrated sulfuric acid, producing the corresponding sulfones (VI). In general, these sulfones prove to show more antibacterial activity than the corresponding sulfonamides (V).
