ChemInform Abstract

The α-bromodeoxybenzoins (I) are cyclized with the thioamide (II) to give the thiazoles (III). Hydrolysis of (III) and subsequent oxidation of the carbinols (IV) form the 2-benzoylthiazoles (V) which are of interest because of their expected antibacterial activity and low toxicity. (No yields given).
